A MAN charged with the manslaughter of his eight-year-old stepdaughter will likely plead guilty, a far north Queensland court has heard.
The child's mother, who is a New Zealand citizen, has already pleaded guilty to the same charge.
Police allege the woman repeatedly beat the girl with a metal vacuum cleaner pipe, among other forms of abuse, over a period of at least 12 months.
The girl was found dead in a unit in the Cairns suburb of Westcourt in November 2011.
A murder charge against the woman was discharged after she admitted to manslaughter in the Cairns Magistrates Court last month.
Police allege her 23-year-old husband turned a blind eye to the abuse and he faces one charge of manslaughter.
On Friday, the man's lawyer indicated in the Cairns Supreme Court that his client would likely plead guilty to the charge.
The pair are due to be sentenced on Tuesday.
