FORMER Queensland housing minister Bruce Flegg is suing his sacked media adviser for defamation.
Dr Flegg quit his portfolio last month and was demoted to the backbench.
His resignation came after his sacked media adviser Graeme Hallett held a press conference to air allegations against his former boss.
It also came amid revelations Dr Flegg failed to record the full extent of contact his office had with his lobbyist son.
Dr Flegg says he has filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr Hallett in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.
"I want to clear my name against absolutely false charges that are an accusation against my character that I'm an unfit person...," Dr Flegg told ABC Radio.
Premier Campbell Newman would not say whether he supported Dr Flegg's move.
"He's on the backbench these days and I believe he's made a judgment," Mr Newman told reporters ahead of Friday's COAG meeting in Canberra."He would do whatever is in his interest in terms of his reputation."
Maurice Blackburn lawyers is representing Mr Hallett.
"Mr Hallett intends to vigorously defend the proceedings," his principal lawyer Terri Butler said.
